Choosing the perfect hob

Eclipse

When it comes to kitting out the kitchen with new appliances, one of the hardest working is the humble hob. If you’re not replacing or renewing a range cooker with hob top, a separate built-in hob is the perfect solution to creating a streamlined look packed with practical features.

Veggie Shepherd's Pie with Magic Mash

Veggie Shepherd's Pie with Magic Mash

This week is National Vegetarian Week. Whilst their aim is to get you eating veggie for a whole week, this recipe is aimed more at the idea of foregoing meat for just one day a week. There are many arguments in support of one meat-free day a week which cite its environmental benefits and these are no small reason why it’s worth considering but I’m no scientist so I’ll leave you to form your own opinions there. However, I would suggest that an initiative like “Meat Free Monday” is worth a look for a much more mercenary reason - it can be really cheap to cook a vegetarian meal.

COUNTRY FARMHOUSE

COUNTRY FARMHOUSE

This month we’re looking at the enduring trend for Country Farmhouse kitchens. These classic styles are always in fashion, and they can be used to complement period properties as well as to bring charm and character to a modern new-build. Cabinetry tends to be painted or natural wood with in-frame doors that can be as simple or as detailed as you like. A fuss-free door panel offers a modern take on the Shaker style, which is a popular choice amongst homeowners looking for the perfect balance between classic and contemporary design.

SIMPLY MODERN

SIMPLY MODERN

We’re going Simply Modern this month, with contemporary kitchens and the sleek, on-trend appliances and accessories to go with them. Modern schemes are a really flexible style solution for all kinds of property, whether it’s a glass box kitchen extension on the back of a Victorian terrace or a compact apartment in the heart of the city. Simple slab doors with a recessed handle offer a sleek, seamless feel which can then be topped off with a worktop either in a complementary neutral shade or something a little more daring to add a touch of drama.

Colour Statement

Colour Statement

As the nights draw in and our days become shorter, now is the perfect time to consider adding a splash of colour to the kitchen. Nothing brightens up a dark, dreary weekend like a vibrant colour scheme that makes you want to linger in the kitchen, cooking up hearty soups, stews and casseroles for family and friends. Whether you’re planning a whole new design in time for Christmas or you just want a quick update before the festive season begins, there are plenty of ways to add pizzazz and personality to your room.

Classically Shaker

Classically Shaker

Kitchen trends may come and go but there’s one style that’s always in fashion and that’s the Classically Shaker look. Elegant and timeless, the starting point for any design is a simple, in-frame panelled cabinet door. Keep it traditional with a soft cream, off-white or neutral painted colour or update the feel with a charcoal or grey finish and use nickel cup handles or a brushed bronze knob.

Slow cook ovens

Slow cook ovens

One of the things I love about a range cooker is its ability to do everything! I don’t need several other machines, usually the ones that are lurking in the back of a cupboard somewhere, I just need my trusty range. It really doesn’t matter if you have a conventional oven, gas oven, multifunction oven or a dedicated slow cook area on your range cooker as you can always slow cook.
