Poached Pears with Chocolate Sauce

Poached Pears

Serves 4


  • 4 pears
  • 50g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or bean paste
  • ½ tsp mixed spice
  • 400ml water
  • 4 tbsp Chocolate spread
  • 2 tsp milk


  • Steam cavity shelf
  • Shallow dish

1. Peel and then halve the pears lengthways

2. Add the pears and all of the remaining ingredients to a shallow dish and then cover with cling film or foil

3. Place the container onto the shelf which should be at the bottom of the oven

4. Cook on 100° for 30 minutes

5. Remove the pears from the oven and leave to cool slightly

6. Add the milk and chocolate spread to a pan and heat gently stirring to a smooth sauce

7. Serve the pears with the warmed sauce
