Rangemaster glossary

Catalytic liners: the grey speckled liners in the oven are catalytic self clean liners. These are self clean at 200 degrees and above where any food splashes at this heat will vaporise. The oven liners are removable allowing the internal cavity to be cleaned.

Doors: The main difference between the doors on Rangemaster cookers is that some have a curvaceous, bevelled look, whilst others offer a sleeker, more modern appearance. Certain cookers have a 'porthole' which is a glass window in the front of the door.

ESP: The Energy Saving Panel. The panel when installed triggers a switch within the cooker, which automatically recognises that the right hand part of the oven is only required for cooking. The same controls are used for the smaller oven on the right hand side (Function and temperature setting) as are used to control the full cavity. This uses less energy than the full cavity for when it is only required for smaller meals, heating up quicker and saving on fuel bills. Residual heat from the cavity in the left-hand side of the oven can be used for plate warming.

Gas burners: There are four sizes of burners one triple ring burner that will come with an additional wok cradle for your flat-bottomed wok. Don't forget you can put your big casserole on this burner also.

The two medium size burners at the back are ideal for everyday use, soup, boiling vegetables, cooking pasta or rice.

The small burner is there for attentive cooking - scrambled egg, white sauce or custard something that needs stirring constantly (recipe)

The large burner is great for your frying pan to cook your lambs liver, bacon or pancakes, allowing fast and controllable heat.

Glide-out Grill: Positioned on smooth-action telescopic runners, our Glide-Out Grill does exactly that. Not only is it easier to check up on your food as it's grilling, but it is also safer as it reduces the risk of pulling the grill out too far.

The grill has two elements that allow either the whole area to be heated or just the right hand side when you are cooking small amounts therefore saving energy.

Handygrill: Unique to Rangemaster, this innovative grilling tray attaches to the inside of the oven door, pulling out into view when the door is opened, for safe and easily accessible closed door grilling. Features four height settings to allow you to use it as a grill as well as a roasting tray.

Half-ribbed, half-smooth griddle: Varied textures for different cooking methods. The smooth, flat area is ideal for cooking eggs, while the ribbed area provides fat-drainage, offering a healthier way of cooking steak, burgers and fish - as well as giving the charred-lines effect.

Handyrack: The Handyrack fits on the oven door, making food easily accessible without having to remove it from the oven. The rack itself is made of heavy duty mild steel wire, plated in chrome and nickel. The roasting dish is made with a high grade steel and has a vitreous enamelled coating, with a special basting well. Both of these parts can be cleaned in the dishwahser. It should be used for cooking meats and poultry using the supplied meat tin, to a maximum weight of 5.5kg. It can be fitted at two different heights. One of the oven shelves must be removed and the other positioned to suit, which can then be used to cook complementary foods.

Multi-zone: The multi-zone consists of 2 ceramic heat zones that allow for the whole of the area to be heated or just the rear half which is marked with a ring for cooking with a pan.

The whole ceramic zone can be used in conjunction with a large fish kettle (recipe/images). The rear area can be used to extend the hob to give a sixth cooking zone. Turned down low the ceramic zone can be used to keep plates warm or it can be used as an extended work surface. It also incorporates a durable non-stick griddle, for a healthier alternative method of cooking popular dishes such as Bubble and Squeak, bacon, sausages, pancakes and salmon. Alternatively, simply lift the griddle and you have two ceramic 1.1kW cooking zones beneath, making this the most versatile hob feature we've developed. Currently available on Excel and Classic Deluxe 110 models.

Pan Supports: Rangemaster pan supports are made of cast iron, heavy duty, gloss enamel, they have been especially designed with you and your family's safety in mind and are built to fully support the pans you are cooking with.

Pyrolytic Cleaning: Introduced to Rangemaster in 2010, when the Pyrolytic function is selected (on the multifunction dial) the oven will heat up to 450°C. Once it reaches this temperature, the oven carbonises all cooking residue to a fine ash, at the end of the cycle all that is left to do is simply wipe away the ash with a damp cloth. Available on Professional+ FXP.

Rapid Response: This function preheats the oven 30% faster than a standard fan oven, so time is not wasted waiting for the temperature light to go out before cooking. Our tests show that chilled foods can be placed in a cold oven using the Rapid Response function, with the same results as a preheated oven.

Serial Number: This is unique to every single appliance. During manufacturing every appliance goes through quality assessments, with each serial number being able to track back to this process. On our range cookers the number is situated on the inside door frame of either the oven or storage drawer - should you need to speak to one of our consumer services advisors or order more parts, have this handy so they can find details regarding your appliance.

Slow Cook Oven: The slow cook oven is one of your 3 ovens, you can warm your plates, cook a fruitcake or meringue or have your casserole and jacket potatoes ready for you when you get home from work. If both ovens are full you still have an area to keep any other food warm before service.  Featured on the Excel range cooker.

Storage Drawer: The majority of our 110cm cookers have a storage drawer as well as our single cavity models, although these do vary in size on each cooker. These are useful for storing baking trays and cooker accessories when they are not in use.

Teppanyaki Style Griddle: A light-weight, cast-aluminium griddle plate, featuring splashback sides and a gradient to help drain fat into a channel at the front. Extra large surface area to cater for large quantities of food. This flat, non-stick plate can be used for far-eastern methods of stir fry dishes, as well as griddling sausages, kebabs and fish. Comes as standard with Professional+ FX and FXP dual fuel models.

Thermodial: A decorative item that gives an indication of the oven temperature. Featured on Classic, Classic Deluxe and Elan models

Triple-ring wok burner: An immensely powerful and controllable burner at 3.65kW, which produces heat from 3 areas, that evenly distributes around the wok.

Warming Zone: Ideal for keeping food warm prior to serving. The warming zone reaches a maximum temperature of 70°C in 30 minutes.
