Healthy Eating

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 9th January 2017

It's January and everyone is done with the excesses of Christmas. Happily, there seem to have been a lot less focus this year on diets and more on eating well. Here are just a couple of ways in which the Rangemaster Elan 90 gets used in our house for good-for-you and happy eating.

Supersized Christmas

Posted by Hayley Gilbert Tuesday, 1st December 2015

They say that good things come in small packages and whilst this is true in many respects, bigger is definitely better when it comes to cooking the Christmas feast. When you consider all the elements that make up this traditional family meal, from the roast potatoes crisp with goose fat to the turkey surrounded by little pigs in blankets, not to mention the vegetables, the gravy and the Christmas pudding, as well as any extra sides and vegetarian dishes, it’s essential to have the biggest ovens you can sensibly squeeze into the kitchen. Rangemaster’s Excel 110 range cooker is guaranteed to take the stress out of the big day as it comes with two large A-rated ovens, a smaller slow cook oven, grill, warming zone, griddle and six-burner gas hob. Take your pick from silver, gloss black, stainless steel, royal pearl, slate or, perfect for the festive season, a mouthwatering cranberry shade to suit your scheme.

Winter Warmers

Posted by Hayley Gilbert Monday, 23rd November 2015

Now that the evenings are drawing in and it’s dark by about 4.30pm, our thoughts turn to keeping our homes warm and cosy. Whether you’re looking forward to family nights in or having friends round for a catch up, there are plenty of ways to give everyone a warm welcome this winter.

Cooking using the Fan Function

Posted by Alexandra Dibble Monday, 13th April 2015

This is another in the series of blogs on each of the oven functions you will find on Rangemaster ovens.  I hope you find each of them useful. Don’t forget, if you have any questions or comments, please let me know. The FAN function or fan oven in Rangemaster range cookers is my favourite!  Quick to heat up, I can cook on 3 levels at one time; with even heat throughout I can cook just about anything using this function - from sausages to a soufflé.

Nutella Brownies - Easy Easter Baking with Kids

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 30th March 2015

This month I’m bringing you possibly the easiest recipe known to man or, more importantly, to woman / man and child. This is school holiday baking at its most accessible. There’s no melting chocolate and no creaming of butter and sugar. All you need is a spatula and a willingness to get covered in chocolate spread. Ok, it’s not ground breaking - the recipe has been all over the internet for a good while now - but I hadn’t tried it until this weekend. I can now vouch for the fact that with only three ingredients, you can have great brownies at your fingertips.

Mother's Day

Posted by James McIntosh Monday, 9th March 2015

As the old saying goes, March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.  I don’t know about you, but I do love when March arrives as the winter is nearly over.  It could still snow and get cold, but it’s getting there. So to change the season (ahead of time) I thought we could do a Spring inspired cake for Mother’s Day.

Pancake Day!

Posted by James McIntosh Monday, 16th February 2015

I’m sure you’re like me and when it comes to Pancake Day the big kid comes out.  Then perhaps the mop comes out, as one may have landed on the floor?  (Clean up is made so much easier if you have a dog).

Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, as I’m sure we all know, was originally a Christian festival to use up ingredients prior to Lent, 40 days before we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus at Easter.  I always find it a good time to install a little self discipline. I overeat at Christmas, break my New Year’s resolutions by the 2nd January, then feel bad that, for me, it is not ‘new year, new  me’.  That’s why I like the tradition of Lent, it gives me a chance to prove to myself that I can be disciplined for a short period of time.  And I do find this instils an inner confidence in myself.

Sea Bream en Papillote

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 9th February 2015

When I was pondering what recipe to make on theme of “food to share with your valentine” I initially thought of a fondue. I like the idea of food where you can’t try to be on your best behaviour – you’re going to get messy and see the ‘real’ valentine, not the perfectly mannered dining partner you might encounter during a meal in a high end and terrifyingly well mannered restaurant. Fondue had one thing right and one thing wrong. Right – it’s easy to make, so one of you isn’t going to feel like they’ve been working away all evening when they should be relaxing. Wrong – I don’t know about you but a vat full of cheese is more likely to make me want to curl up under a duvet than engage in sparkling conversation (or whatever). So, here is my alternative suggestion for messy but tasty eating: Sea Bream en Papillote.

Cooking a Dinner Party With Less Fat

Posted by James McIntosh Monday, 17th November 2014

I'm very proud to say at the grand age of 36 I have a 32" waist.  I do believe in the concept of "you are what you eat", but rather than being fanatical about food, I simply eat a healthy balanced diet.  Well, it works for me.  That means I can splurge and save on different ingredients and have naughty days complemented with healthier days.  But, it’s not all about me, so considering a dinner party, how do we ensure less fat is on the plate?
