Picnic Pick-and-Mix Handpies

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 7th August 2017

Summer holidays are here and getting outdoors is a great thing to do with the family when you’ve been cooped up in schools and offices all year. Add a a picnic into the mix you've got yourself an adventure - especially when you take the unreliable British weather into account. This recipe will not only make an event out of prepping for the picnic, but it’ll provide a range of options for young and old and something comforting enough to eat in the car hiding from the rain or light enough to eat sat in the sun. You can make the pastry with the kids and lay out all the filling options for them to choose from so that they can make their lunch and mark the tops of the pies as they wish.

Shortbread with a Malty Millionaire option

Posted by Gill Bland Tuesday, 1st August 2017

Shortbread. So simple and yet so good. Only three ingredients can make you a wonderful, buttery, crumbly biscuit which is perfect to have on your own with a moment of calm and a cup of tea or to package up into a gift. Not only that, but you can use it as a base for all sorts of wonderful sweet treats - perhaps with cream or mousse on top or indeed, millionaire shortbread. However, I’ve always had dubious results when it comes to the caramel part of the shortbread-for-rich-people so I’m sharing a cheats method with you which I discovered by throwing a load of ingredients in my baking cupboard into a pan and has since become a family favourite.

Gingerbread Mocha Mousse Cake

Posted by Gill Bland Wednesday, 7th December 2016

Not everyone loves Christmas pudding and even if you do, it can be a bit much at the end ofa full Christmas Dinner. This dessert makes a lighter alternative and is quick and easy to assemble, especially if you make the biscuits ahead of time. It’s an ode to the Christmas drinks so popular in high street coffee shops at this time of year and who knows, maybe it’ll give you a nice caffeine boost at the end of the meal - just enough to make it through the washing up before you collapse in a heap.

BENEFITS OF A HOT WATER TAP

Posted by Hayley Gilbert Monday, 8th August 2016

One trend that has taken the kitchen market by storm is the hot water tap and it’s easy to see why. As well as looking sleek and stylish next to the sink, it also offers benefits in terms of water and energy usage. By turning on a hot water tap for cooking or a cuppa instead of boiling the kettle, you only use the amount of water you need and don’t waste energy boiling up more than required. It also saves time, as the hot water is instant, and can even cut down on electricity costs, too.
