National Bread Week: Easy Bread Recipe

Posted by Emma Line Thursday, 16th April 2015

There’s nothing more comforting than the smell of freshly baked bread making its way through the home. Bread is a firm favourite among comfort foods, it’s versatile and can be eaten at breakfast, lunch or dinner and what’s more is that it’s easy to experiment with - so once you know the basic rules you’re able to find your very own perfect recipe.

National Bread Week is from 16th – 22nd April this year and allows us to celebrate this traditional favourite. We love National Bread Week because it gives us an excuse to bake some tasty home-made bread throughout the week (and then all year round).

Cooking using the Fan Function

Posted by Alexandra Dibble Monday, 13th April 2015

This is another in the series of blogs on each of the oven functions you will find on Rangemaster ovens.  I hope you find each of them useful. Don’t forget, if you have any questions or comments, please let me know. The FAN function or fan oven in Rangemaster range cookers is my favourite!  Quick to heat up, I can cook on 3 levels at one time; with even heat throughout I can cook just about anything using this function - from sausages to a soufflé.

Nutella Brownies - Easy Easter Baking with Kids

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 30th March 2015

This month I’m bringing you possibly the easiest recipe known to man or, more importantly, to woman / man and child. This is school holiday baking at its most accessible. There’s no melting chocolate and no creaming of butter and sugar. All you need is a spatula and a willingness to get covered in chocolate spread. Ok, it’s not ground breaking - the recipe has been all over the internet for a good while now - but I hadn’t tried it until this weekend. I can now vouch for the fact that with only three ingredients, you can have great brownies at your fingertips.

Pyrolytic Oven Cleaning

Posted by Alexandra Dibble Monday, 16th March 2015

As the Home Economist here at Rangemaster the most frequently asked question, by consumers, is “how do I clean my oven?”

Cleaning the oven or ovens usually instils dread in us!  No-one likes to do it but isn’t it lovely when the ovens are clean!  I have heard of some Rangemaster consumers keeping one oven for roasting etc. and the other for baking, which in theory means you only have one oven to clean as roasting is usually the cause for most oven soiling.  This seems like a good idea. Please let me know if you do this and how it works for you.

Mother's Day

Posted by James McIntosh Monday, 9th March 2015

As the old saying goes, March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.  I don’t know about you, but I do love when March arrives as the winter is nearly over.  It could still snow and get cold, but it’s getting there. So to change the season (ahead of time) I thought we could do a Spring inspired cake for Mother’s Day.

Pancake Day!

Posted by James McIntosh Monday, 16th February 2015

I’m sure you’re like me and when it comes to Pancake Day the big kid comes out.  Then perhaps the mop comes out, as one may have landed on the floor?  (Clean up is made so much easier if you have a dog).

Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, as I’m sure we all know, was originally a Christian festival to use up ingredients prior to Lent, 40 days before we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus at Easter.  I always find it a good time to install a little self discipline. I overeat at Christmas, break my New Year’s resolutions by the 2nd January, then feel bad that, for me, it is not ‘new year, new  me’.  That’s why I like the tradition of Lent, it gives me a chance to prove to myself that I can be disciplined for a short period of time.  And I do find this instils an inner confidence in myself.

Sea Bream en Papillote

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 9th February 2015

When I was pondering what recipe to make on theme of “food to share with your valentine” I initially thought of a fondue. I like the idea of food where you can’t try to be on your best behaviour – you’re going to get messy and see the ‘real’ valentine, not the perfectly mannered dining partner you might encounter during a meal in a high end and terrifyingly well mannered restaurant. Fondue had one thing right and one thing wrong. Right – it’s easy to make, so one of you isn’t going to feel like they’ve been working away all evening when they should be relaxing. Wrong – I don’t know about you but a vat full of cheese is more likely to make me want to curl up under a duvet than engage in sparkling conversation (or whatever). So, here is my alternative suggestion for messy but tasty eating: Sea Bream en Papillote.

Trout With Almonds in the Handy Grill

Posted by Alexandra Dibble Wednesday, 4th February 2015

Trout cooked with almonds may be considered a classic recipe nowadays!  I do remember first cooking this when I was at college which was rather a long time ago! But it is still delicious cooked this way, crunchy almonds and tender moist trout flavoured with fresh herbs and lemon. And don’t forget how good oily fish are for us!

Shake Up Your Wake Up for Breakfast Week

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 26th January 2015

The 25th-31st January is officially Breakfast Week. It’s also probably about the time when all those healthy eating intentions that you had at the start of January are starting to slip. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and I particularly love a leisurely brunch with a good coffee and some friends (or the crossword). I recently had something similar to this at my favourite brunch spot in London and it occurred to me that while many brunch recipes are rather sugar or fat laden, this one is really quite healthy. So, I though Id see if I could re-create it. I reckon it’s got 2 or 3 of your 5 a day, the eggs provide good protein to keep you going and the yoghurt adds a tart creaminess whilst providing all the benefits that live yoghurt gives.

Once the New Year is underway, it’s time to brush off those New Years’ Resolutions and start as you mean to go on. For many of us, that means embracing a whole new healthy lifestyle, including moderating the way we cook. Okay, so the gym membership may not make it past March but I find that changing cooking and eating habits is a lot easier – and more fun, too.
