National Bread Week: Easy Bread Recipe

Posted by Emma Line Thursday, 16th April 2015

There’s nothing more comforting than the smell of freshly baked bread making its way through the home. Bread is a firm favourite among comfort foods, it’s versatile and can be eaten at breakfast, lunch or dinner and what’s more is that it’s easy to experiment with - so once you know the basic rules you’re able to find your very own perfect recipe.

National Bread Week is from 16th – 22nd April this year and allows us to celebrate this traditional favourite. We love National Bread Week because it gives us an excuse to bake some tasty home-made bread throughout the week (and then all year round).

Nutella Brownies - Easy Easter Baking with Kids

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 30th March 2015

This month I’m bringing you possibly the easiest recipe known to man or, more importantly, to woman / man and child. This is school holiday baking at its most accessible. There’s no melting chocolate and no creaming of butter and sugar. All you need is a spatula and a willingness to get covered in chocolate spread. Ok, it’s not ground breaking - the recipe has been all over the internet for a good while now - but I hadn’t tried it until this weekend. I can now vouch for the fact that with only three ingredients, you can have great brownies at your fingertips.

Mother's Day

Posted by James McIntosh Monday, 9th March 2015

As the old saying goes, March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.  I don’t know about you, but I do love when March arrives as the winter is nearly over.  It could still snow and get cold, but it’s getting there. So to change the season (ahead of time) I thought we could do a Spring inspired cake for Mother’s Day.

Baking with children. Make your own lunch.

Posted by Gill Bland Monday, 22nd September 2014

This month I thought I’d bring you a recipe that’s great for getting the children in your life enjoying the kitchen as much as you do.

Whether you’ve got children of your own and have just re-started the daily packed lunch production line, or are just temporarily taking the role of small-person supervisor and want an easy activity that has the added bonus of resulting lunch, this recipe is ideal. You’ll have the benefit of knowing exactly what your darling one is eating and they can get all nice and messy mixing and kneading the bread with their hands. You could even add spices, nuts, dried fruit, or other ingredients to jazz it up. I once had a lovely cinnamon spiced soda bread with dates and walnuts in it. I suspect that version would be more popular with the more mature section of the family though, especially if accompanied with some good cheese and wine!

Simnel Cake

Posted by James McIntosh Sunday, 20th April 2014

Christmas seems a long time ago, winter is over and as the old saying goes 'March has come in like a lion and out like a lamb'. It's now that time of year when we can all look forward to some family time again and a lovely dinner to spend precious family moments together. I always like Easter, the weather is better, the days are starting to get lighter for longer, and the gloom of winter is past and a little time off work. Kids are off school, teachers are getting their well deserved break and for the rest of us it’s the first bank holiday of the year. In reality in my house, Easter Monday is DIY day. I'm not very good at DIY and it's never finished on Easter Monday!
