The Great Taste Awards and Rangemaster
Posted by James McIntosh Tuesday, 20th August 2013
Imagine a day of food, everywhere you look there is food and there is more food once the table is cleared away. This is no ordinary food, its spectacular food. Popcorn, beef wellington, gin, vodka, bacon, mince pies, sausage rolls, breakfast cereal, and in fact any sort of food you could imagine...
Now, imagine the same day with all of this and TV celebrity chefs, food writers, manufacturers and artisan producers. Myself and many others were there - all there to work, which mainly involved eating. It wasn't just one dish, but 300 a day and I did it for 3 days in a row.
Why do you ask? All to find the winners of the 2013 Great Taste Awards. There were over 150 categories, from vinegars to chocolates, and cheeses to pies. When all the products arrive they are awarded a one star grade and a set of four judges confirm or reject that award. The product is then sent to another table for verification. If the two teams of judges don't agree, it is then sent to another table and so on. This is the same for awarding a two star.
When a three star product is found you simply know it when you find it. Through 900 products I encountered, there was only one three star product and it was spectacular. So when you see a Great Taste Award you know this product is good.
Needless to say I came home feeling very full indeed, but it was great to see the food being cooked on a Rangemaster. We are proud we have more Rangemasters in British homes than any other range cooker. Lots of the food products I tried at the Great Taste Awards were hand made by British producers, and Rangemaster are British too, made in Leamington Spa.
The results of the Great Taste Awards are announced in September. Mums the word until then!
